Epipactis purpurata Sm., Engl. Fl. 4: 41 (1828),nom. cons.- Syn. Epipactis viridiflora (Hoffm.)Krock. -
Perennial, often forming small colonies of up to 20 stems. Rhizome vertical, branched. Stem 25-70 cm tall, violet tinged and covered with short hairs. With 2-3 basal sheaths and 3-6 (or more) narrow-lanceolate, 5-10 cm long stemleaves.
Inflorescence 10-30 cm long, with 25-50 flowers.Sepals 8-12 mm long, 4-5 mm wide. Labellum 8-10 mm long, whitish to pale pink. Epichile heartshaped, hypochile deeply concave reddish outside and light violet inside. -
The distribution within Denmark is restricted to old beech forests on plastic clay. It is rare in the eastern part of Jutland, and very rare on Fyn, Falster and the western part of Zealand. Protected in Denmark.
